Dream Market is a Dark Web marketplace. It is currently the largest and longest-running Dark web market. Below, we’ll take a look at the features and history of the market. Additionally, we provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to buy something from Dream Market.
Links to Dream Market
In order to access Dream Market, you need to use the Tor Browser. Dream Market can be accessed through the following links:
Make sure you only access Dream Market using links from trusted sources. Occasionally, scammers will distribute fake market links in order to “phish” login details.
History of Dream Market
Dream Market first came online in 2013. The site’s original administrators have maintained anonymity, known only by the moniker Team SpeedStepper.
During its early stages, Dream served as a relatively low-volume alternative to more popular markets. After larger markets such as AlphaBay were seized by law enforcement, established vendors gradually migrated to Dream.
Now, Dream serves as the largest and most popular dark web market. Owing its success largely to its longevity, Dream has served as a reliable market on which to connect with a host of established vendors, as well as a platform for new vendors to earn their stripes.
In some ways, the site is beginning to show its age. Despite being the most popular and widely used dark net market, Dream maintains and appearance and functionality that closely resembles the original Silk Road. Unlike Wall Street Market and CGMC, Dream has no MultiSig Escrow. Instead, Dream relies on a market-wallet deposit system which deprives customers of complete control of their cryptocurrency assets.
Dream has not been without its controversies. In 2017, 36-year-old Gal Vallerius, also known as Dream staff member and French opiate vendor OxyMonster, was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison for online drug trafficking.1
Features of Dream Market
Size of Market
Dream offers nearly ten times as many product listings as its closest competitor: Wall Street Market. Dream Market features over 150,000 listings separated into five categories: Digital Goods, Drugs, Drug Paraphernalia, Services, and Other.
According to Dream’s Help Page, the philosophy of the site is based on “supporting the free market.” In line with this, Dream has very few restrictions on what can be sold on the market. However, certain classes of goods and services are prohibited. Dream’s rules forbid the sale of weapons, poisons, certain forms of pornography and media, services which render physical harm, and fentanyl.
New vendors are required to pay a bond of $339 USD. The bond is refundable at any time if the vendor wishes to surrender their vendor account account. The vendor bond is also returned after reaching a certain reputation as a vendor on the marketplace.
Anyone can apply to be a vendor, however vendors with a verified profile and upstanding reputation on another supported marketplace have a better chance of qualifying.
Dream makes use of a classic market escrow system. Customers are required to deposit cryptocurrency into a market wallet which can be interacted with through the site. This balance is used to make purchases, which will be placed in escrow and controlled exclusively by Dream Market until the customer Fianlizes the order or initiates a dispute.
After finalizing, the funds are released from escrow and transferred to the vendor. Should an issue arise with the order, such as it not arriving or arriving not as described, the customer has the ability to initiate a dispute to be mediated by Dream staff members while the funds are held in escrow.
Dream does not offer any advanced escrow features such as MultiSig.
Dream’s staff and community have managed to weed out many of the bad actors and have maintained a decent reputation for reliability of the site. They mediate order disputes on a daily basis but provide no other way of contacting staff for support, other than the occasional appearance on the Dream discussion forum.
While the Dream staff are generally well regarded, the huge volume of the marketplace can often lead to delays in response time.
Dream Market does not require users to use a PGP Key to register or use the market. However, users have the option of loading their Public PGP Key into their user profile. The site offers integrated automatic PGP encryption for their messaging services. This means that, if you’ve loaded your Public PGP Key, vendors and users will be able to automatically encrypt communications sent to you on Dream.
Adding a Public PGP Key also enables Dream Market’s 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) for additional account security. When enabled, 2FA requires you to perform an encryption test using your PGP Key Pair upon login. This is recommended for all vendors or any customers storing cryptocurrency balances on the Dream market-wallet.
Cryptocurrencies & Market Wallet
Dream Market relies on an integrated market wallet. This means that in order to make a purchase on the market, users will first need to send their cryptocurrency to a wallet controlled by Dream. Users are able to withdraw their balance or use it to make purchases on the site, however once deposited the funds are stored in wallets owned by Dream.
Dream provides market-wallets for Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. Vendors exercise individual discretion in which cryptocurrencies they accept, although the vast majority accept Bitcoin.
How to Make a Purchase from Dream Market
Now that we’ve given you a broad overview of the history and features of Dream Market, we’ll walk you step-by-step through how to make a purchase from Dream Market.
Registering on and Logging in to Dream Market
First, always secure your links to Dream Market or any other hidden service from a trusted source, such as Explore Psychedelics. Open Tor Browser and navigate to the .onion URL for Dream Market. Check the URL bar to verify you’re on a valid site and not on a phishing page. You should see something that looks like this:
To sign up, let’s click on the “Signup” link (highlighted in yellow above.) This will take us to the registration page, which should look something like this:
Registering your account only requires a username, password, and withdraw PIN. Your withdraw PIN is a unique code that will be required if you want to withdraw any cryptocurrency from your market-wallet. Think of it like a second password which secures your funds.
If you’ve successfully registered, you will be automatically logged in to the market.
To browse Dream’s listings, you can either use the Search bar at the top right of the page, or click on any of the product categories to the left. Clicking on a category will expand related sub-categories, allowing you to quickly refine your search to get the listings you’re looking for.
After selecting a category and sub-category, the “Filter” menu at the top of the listings can be used to further refine your selection.
Scrolling down a bit further, on the left side of the interface we have a menu marked “Exchange.” This allows you to quickly switch the prices displayed on the site into your preferred currency. Click on the name of your preferred currency to reload the page with all prices displayed in that currency.
Ordering a Product You’ve Selected
Once you’ve identified a listing of interest, click on its name or photo. This will pop up a small window with a few more details. For the full product listing, click the “View Offer” button in the bottom right corner of the dialog that pops up.
Now we should be on the product listing page. This will contain the vendor’s full description of the product, information regarding price, quantity, and availability, as well as any instructions or policies specific to the vendor.
Read all of this carefully!
Once you’ve perused all the information in the listing and reviews, scroll down to the “Add to cart” button toe move to the next stage.
Now that we’ve added it to our cart, we should be taken to a page to review our order. However, because we haven’t put any cryptocurrency into our market-wallet yet, we will get a message letting us know we have insufficient funds. Click the “Account deposit” button to make a deposit.
On this page a Bitcoin deposit address will be provided. This is the address we can use to fund our Dream market-wallet. Simply copy-and-paste the address into your Bitcoin wallet interface and send over some funds.
You’ll have to wait for two confirmations of your transaction, which can take up to twenty minutes or more. Because of this delay, it’s typically best to send over slightly more Bitcoin than you plan to use for your purchase. This gives you a little bit of a buffer to account for Bitcoin price fluctuations.
Once you’ve sent your Bitcoin, you can refresh the page on Dream Market. You should see something like the screenshot below, with Dream indicating that you have an unconfirmed balance.
Now all you need to do is wait for the transaction to be confirmed! It takes on average ten minutes per confirmation, and you’ll need two confirmations. Check back in twenty minutes or so.
After your deposit is confirmed, click the “Cart” icon at the top of the page towards the right. Your order will now in the “Wishlish.” Click the green “Open” icon to return to the order confirmation page we were on before.
Scrolling down the page, we find the vendor’s Terms and Conditions as well as their Public PGP Key. You’ll need to load the PGP Key into your GPG encryption software in order to encrypt your shipping information. For a complete guide on how to use PGP Keys and encrypt text, view our guide to gpg4usb.
Once you’ve encrypted your address, paste it into the “Shipping address” box at the bottom of the order page. You may notice Dream market has an option to encrypt your message on-site, but we recommend manually encrypting your shipping address for maximum security.
Click the “Order Now” button to submit your order to the vendor. As soon as you click this button, your funds will be transferred into escrow and your encrypted shipping details relayed to the vendor.
Finalizing Your Order and Leaving a Review
If we click the View Order button, we’ll be taken to a page with our order’s details. Take note of the “Autofinalizes In” row. This represents how long you have until your funds are automatically released from escrow and sent to the vendor.
If your order has not arrived in time, you can also opt to “Extend period,” which will increase the time until the order auto-finalizes. Should you need to extend the period, contact the vendor to help resolve the situation.
Once you’ve received your order and confirmed that it is as described, you’ll want to Finalize. Finalizing releases payment to the vendor and allows you to leave feedback in the form of a star rating and a short review. Scroll to the bottom of your View Order page to find the Finalize Order option.
Fill out a short review and press the Finalize Order button to complete your order.
